SA Transportation, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Hon. Williams Dogo, has called on the motorists in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT-Abuja to drive with caution while plying the roads within the city to avoid accidents and carnages.

Speaking to Idealposts in his office in Abuja, Hon. Dogo warned motoring public against indiscriminate parking along the roads to avoid unnecessary traffic holdup, saying that there are designated bus stops in the city where motorists can park to pick and drop passengers without obstructing other road users.

He further warned that whoever was found violating the traffic rules and regulations by AMAC Marshall will be arrested, adding that such individual will also be made to face mobile court and would be charged to pay the recommended fees of N5,000 accordingly.

“We have been sensitizing members of the public via medium like Liberty Radio in one of their programmes, “Talk Nigeria” and other media organizations that motorists should be very careful not to park their vehicles along the roads anyhow in the city of Abuja.

“Abuja is a very beautiful city, the best city in Africa and one of the best cities in the world. People need to behave in a civilized way. We are not saying motorists should not park, but they should park at a right place so as to allow free flow of vehicles.

“For commercial drivers, they can drop and pick passengers at designated bus stops in the city, but parking along the roads anyhow and causing obstructions is what we are talking about. We should understand that where your right ends, that is where another person’s right starts, so we should exercise caution while driving. We are in the millennium age, and it is expected of each and everyone to behave well and shouldn’t do things like people who don’t know the rights and the wrongs.” SA, AMAC Transport said.

Hon. Dogo explained that the taskforce, “AMAC Marshall” was formed by AMAC Transport Management Committee to curtail the excesses of some motorists in Abuja with the primary objective of clearing the Abuja city of wrong and indiscriminate parking.

On security, he asserted that the operations of the Marshalls have helped in fishing out some criminals in the city, popularly known as “one chance” that have been attacking people in the vehicle, collecting phones, money and other valuables from their victims.

“We have assisted maximally in the area of security within the city. Since we commenced, if you go to the records of police, the rate of ‘one chance’ in the town has drastically reduced to the barest minimum because of the operations of our men”

“We have also helped in reducing unnecessary holdup on the road. You know, drivers have the habit of parking on the road anyhow and obstruct others, that is why we set up this taskforce.

“It is well organized, we have mobile court here, approved by the Chief Judge of the FCT and also, we are in collaboration with the Nigeria police. We have about 10 policemen working with us presently.

“When our men accosted offenders, they bring them to the mobile court here to face the judgement. If such offender pleaded guilty, he will be fined and if he is not guilty of any offence, the judge will discharge him or her to go without paying anything”
