The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, FCT Command has deployed 2,715 Regular Marshals and over 3000 Special Marshals to address the road traffic issues that may arise during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Sector Commander, C.C. Samuel Oga Ochi gave the hints in Abuja, while speaking to IDEALPOSTS in an exclusive interview during the week.

Ochi also revealed that a total of 34 patrol vehicles, 17 ambulances, 4 towing trucks and 12 power bikes have been deployed to be allocated to different locations in the Territory during the festivities.

He said, apart from the regular deployment already made, FRSC is also collaborating with other security agents, such as the Nigerian police, Civil Defence, V.I.O. among others to ensure a hitch free Yuletide and New Year celebrations.

“As I am talking to you, we have combined deployments of road safety, police and VIO along Abaji-Gwagwalada road to ensure that roads are not congested and that will continue until 15th of January” he said.

The Sector Commander further stated that ‘help areas’ have been established during this period in some critical areas in FCT, such as Giri, Zuba, Karu/Nyanya fly over,  Abaji Area Council among others to assist victims that may be involved in crashes.

“The essence of having these help areas is that the general public will get to know where personnel will be at all time. In those help areas; there will be an ambulance, 2 trucks and patrol car stationed there including men that can respond to any emergency that may occur.

“It is our desire that there should be no road crash during this period, but our desire notwithstanding, we know that it may not be absolutely impossible for us to prevent all forms of emergencies on the highways. That is why those help areas were established so that whenever emergency occurred, we can respond promptly” he stated.

Corp Commander Ochi assured that medical facilities are readily available to attend to any emergency, unlike in the previous years where there were rejections of accident victims, adding that such rejection has become a thing of the past in FCT.

He disclosed that medical facilities like the National Hospital, National Medical Centre Zabi, General Hospital Maitama and Wuse as well as Kubwa General Hospital are some of the designated facilities to be used during this period for emergency cases.

“We believed that during this period of celebration, all hospitals will attend to emergencies as the case may come up for the purpose of saving lives” he said.

The FRSC, FCT boss appealed to the member of the public to strictly adhere to all safety regulations as he totally condemned drinking and driving, stressing that such habit will no longer be tolerated.

He therefore warned that whoever was caught in the habit of drinking and driving will be apprehended and persecuted accordingly.
