Youth Ministry to collaborates with Ministry of Health, to establish Youth Health Advisory Team

Ministry of Youth Development has set to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Health in a process to establish a youth health advisory team and task force in Nigeria. This is in line with the establishment of a new Public health order for the Country.                                   

Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, disclosed this while paying a courtesy visit to the Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Pate in Abuja on Thursday.                                     

Jamila noted that as a Country with more than 70% youth population which represents various health and social challenges to the Nation, it is very necessary for government at all levels to build a strong health policy for the Youth.           

The youth Minister furrher pointed out that as the leader of Nigerian team to the annual international youth conference on Public health in Africa in Zambia in 2023, Nigeria made the first declaration for the establishment of youth Centre for  Disease Control in Africa, hence the need to domesticate it in Nigeria.

Jamila Ibrahim explained that the new public health order is a roadmap to sustainable health outcomes and its health security in Nigeria for the youth with five pillars which includes, building strong National Public health institutions, expanding the manufacturing of vaccines and diogonistics, increasing domestic investment in health, increasing investment in Public health work force, among others.        

In his speech, the Hon. Minister of Health Muhammad Ali Pate, expressed the readiness of his Ministry to partner with the Ministry of Youth Development and other critical stake holders including Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC in building a sound health institution with a focus on youth health advancement strategies in Nigeria. 

The young health advisory team and task force according to Hon. Minister of Youth Development will be made up of young Nigerian professional health officers.                        The two collaborating Ministries agreed to set up a joint committee drawn from the two ministries for an effective collaboration.
