Senator Amos Kumai Yohanna, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, has promised to legislate in collaboration with his colleagues in the Red Chamber to bring down the dividend of democracy to the people of his constituency.

He pointed out that the issues of insecurity, poverty, bad roads, educational decay, lack of portable water, inadequate health care facility, poor sanitation among others remain the major challenges in the people in the area.

Recall that Senator Yohanna, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was sworn in October, 2023 by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary session after his victory at the appeal court.

The new Senator replaced Elisha Abbo of the All Progressives Congress, APC who was sacked by the Appeal Court on 16 October, 2023.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja during the week, Sen. Yohanna promised to represent the people of his constituency with equity, adding that he will be organising Town Hall meeting  from time to time where his people will come together to articulate their mind.

He said, “There are so many challenges in the Adamawa North Senatorial District. The area has been ravaged by insecurity, poverty, bad roads, poor education, lack of portable water and poor sanitation. All these challenges are largely caused by insecurity in that part of the country for many years.”

Senator Yohanna, who is also a Reverend, said a single legislature cannot achieve any tangible thing, adding that the need for him to collaborate with other lawmakers to achieve his goal cannot be overemphasized.

According to him, “We have to work as an organ and as a system in order to achieve a goal for the benefit of the people as stipulated or provided by law. Basically, that is it and we do all of that to ensure we achieve our aims.

“It is not enough, when you sit in Abuja here and tells your people that this is what they need, the people should be able to voice out what they need and that is the style of the representation that I intend to deploy.

“I will speak with the people, engage them in their community and town hall meeting and let them articulate the various needs of the community and by extension, the senatorial district. And that is what I will use to request the support and cooperation of my colleagues so that those things will be properly legislated and demands met.”

The lawmaker also expressed his desire to build up the youths in his constituency, stressing that he will open up opportunities for them to develop themselves so that they can get skills that would better their lives and the society at large.

“Now that it is an IT age, we are even moving to Artificial Intelligence, AI. We need to expose the youths to it. But how do you expose them, we need to engage them in all of these, something that will benefits them. Concerning the IT or AI and the rest, we will discuss together on how best we will go about it.” Sen. Yohanna said.

Also talking about his interest as a lawmaker, he said, “My number one interest is Nigeria. When issue comes up and it is in the best interest of Nigeria, we will look at it together and actualise it, and if it is not in the best interest of Nigerians, no matter how popular it is, it may not see the light of the day because, the main interest is what will improve the live of Nigerian people.”
