FRSC cautions motorists on reckless driving in FCT
…urges them to obey traffic rules or face the wrath of law

In a bid to ensure safety of road users in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has once again warned reckless drivers and those who have formed the habit of disobeying traffic rules and regulations to henceforth desist or face the wrath of the law.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in the FCT, CC. Ochi Ogar Samuel, gave the warning while speaking to IDEALPOSTS in an exclusive interview recently in Abuja.
The Sector Commander, who said that enforcement of traffic offences are meant to serve as deterrent to other road users, noted that the emphasis of the corps for 2022 is to step up the enforcement activities in the territory to ensure compliance.
“We believe strongly and we know that where enforcements are heightened, it leads to reduction the numbers of people that want to disobey traffic rules and regulations.
“If you look at what is happening today, a lot of people disobey traffic regulations and you see people using one way, you see people disobeying traffic light and all of that.
“Many have the habit of picking their phones while driving and with all these, there are dangerous consequences on other road users. We consider all these as critical in the sense that it leads to death of other innocent Nigerians that are using the road.
“If one is driving against traffic, an innocent person that is obeying the traffic regulations may be a victim and the same thing is also applicable to those that beat traffic light. All of these can result to death of innocent Nigerians on the high way. That is why in the first places, there are penalties for those offences” he said.
The Sector Commander called on the general public, especially the motorists to obey traffic regulations, which he said could bring down drastically the numbers of arrest in the year 2022.
“But in any case, for us in the FRSC, our desire is to ensure that we have zero tolerance to traffic disobedience. We ensure that people obey traffic rule, that is why we are doing a lot of traffic enlightenment and public education.
“We go to Mosques, Churches and market places to let the people know that obedience to traffic rules lead to smooth road use and save road use. When you obey and I obey, the road will become easier for us to manage and the traffic situation will become easier for us to manage.
“When we have people complying, there may not be the need for enforcement, there may not be the need for us to arrest offenders on the highways, because the compliance, the requirement for our safe road use are in place, that is the essence of our being on the road to manage the traffic. “ he stated.
CC. Ochi also cautioned motorists, who beat traffic light and as well disobey other traffic rules and regulations at will to shun the habit, saying that FRSC personnel now use body camera for all patrol operations in FCT.
He said, “When you beat traffic light and you think you have escaped, we have a way of getting back to you. There are instances where a person runs against traffic light, then at that point, you may not be arrested, but since we have the records of such instances, we have your details, your registration number among others, through which we will definitely get you either in your house or office and you will be made to pay for the ticket.”
