Senate confirms five as ICPC commissioners

Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nominations of five commissioners in the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, chaired by Senator Suleiman Abdu Kwari (APC Kaduna North)

Those confirmed include: Senator Anthony Agbo representing South East from Ebonyi State; Anne Otelafu Odey, South South from Cross River State; Olugbenga Adeyanju, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG representing South West from Ekiti, as well as Alhaji Goni Ali Gujba and Dr. Louis Solomon Mandama representing North East from Yobe and Adamawa States respectively.

In his presentation, the chairman of the committee, recalled that one of the nominees, Dr. (Mrs) Mojisola Yaya-Kolade was withdrawn by President Buhari, and replaced with Olugbenga Adeyanju, who was screened by the Committee.

Kwari disclosed that the nominees gave in-depth responses to the questions posed by the Committee on ways they would fulfill the Commission’s mandate. 

He added that “the committee after scrutinizing their credentials was satisfied that the nominees have requisite experience, integrity, professional competence and industry to discharge the functions of the position they were nominated.”

The chairman further disclosed that there was no adverse security reports or petitions against any of the nominees.
