GPRS: OSGoF builds capacity to gather data on objects under the earth

The incumbent Administration of President Muhammadu Buhariis is demonstrating unambiguous commitment to physical infrastructure expansion and socioeconomic development through recent development at the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation, OSGoF, the country’s apex extra-ministerial Surveying and Mapping Office.

The development is to ensure the production of timely and reliable geospatial data that would facilitate quick and effective planning, decision-making and implementation of projects and programmes.

As part of the efforts, OSGoF has installed Ground Penetrating Radar System, GPRS and surveyors at the Office currently undergoing training to enhance OSGoF’s capacity to locating and providing information on anything under the Nigerian earth space.

Declaring the capacity building programme open, the Acting Surveyor General of the Federation, SGoF, Surv. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin said the equipment were basically geographical built with radio wave devices to capture objects under the earth.

He added that the use of the equipment would impact heavily on physical infrastructure, solid mineral development and other national socioeconomic undertakings.

Surv. Adebomehin, who, was represented by his Special Assistant, Surv. Ebune Danladi, charged participants at the training programme, also made up of some staff of the National Communication Commission, NCC to take the programme serious.

He said OSGoF would be repositioned for proper collaboration with MDAs in providing the best of geospatial products and services to boost national growth and development.

The training is being anchored by experts from Teromovigo Company based in Portugal.

The Office has also installed weather sensor equipment to enhance the provision of data on humidity, temperature, precipitation and wind.

Its Climate Change Division under the Department of Geodesy is test-running its weather station providing per second information on weather in the FCT.
