Compendium as Hon. Lawal Muhammadu clocks two years in office

Firstly, we appreciate almighty Allah, who made it possible for us to witness this memorable day in sound health alhamdulillah.

The Member Representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency Hon Lawal Muhammadu Idirisu record of achievements as he journeyed so far for two year of his second term in office.

The Member who believed that democracy is not all about elections and protecting civil and political rights of citizenry , but also addressing the economic and social needs of the people who elected you . Democracy is all about good governance and visionary initiatives that promote peace , happiness and development. The idea of democracy therefore revolves around the lofty policies and full commitment to the pursuit of these ideas.

His achievements for just 2 years in office of his second term are enviable and have endeared him to all his supporters and admirers all over the Constituency beyond a great Leader with the magic wand that turns impossibility to possibility.

The name Hon. Lawal speaks distinction, proficiency, efficiency, capacity and uniqueness in his Constituency, State and Nationally.

He is a celebrated Lawmaker, a God sent, highly revered Constituency Leader with several antecedents of achievements on ground virtually in all communities that makes up Ajaokuta Federal Constituency has his Projects, empowerment, education outreach that spread across. 

As a Legislator which basic duties according to 1999 constitution as amended are lawmaking and scrutinizing the work of the government, the Government is therefore obliged to provide the chamber with the necessary information, so as to enable parliament scrutinize the work of the Government properly.

These obligations are laid down in the constitution.

The duties are:-

-The right to approve and amend budget bills.

-The right of investigation and inquiry.

-The right to propose motions.

-The right to amend bills.

-The right to question cabinet.

-The right of initiatives.

As a Legislator, he has touched lives positively on his own way to bring the dividends of democracy nearer to the good people of his Constituency.

Below are the records of his achievements for just two year of the second term in office…

– BILLS

One of the duties of the legislatures is sponsoring of bills for the betterment of the country, state and immediate Constituency. He was able to sponsor the bills below.

Lead a debate in a bill for an act to amend the National Population Commission act Cap, N67, Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004, to specify position of Chairman and the Director general of the commission and to review the time imposed for offences in the principal act and for other related matters.

An act to provide for the upgrade and conversation of Ajaokuta iron and steel clinic to Federal Teaching Hospital Ajaokuta to provide facility for health care services and medical training for students of Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State and other related matters.

Lead a debate on a bill for an act to provide for the inclusion anti- prejudice education in the programmes of National Youth Service Corps, National Orientation agency, public and private broadcasting stations and in the curicula of schools at all levels to promote national unity and integration and for other related matters.

MOTIONS

Urgent need for rehabilitation of Okene – Ajaokuta- Itobe road in Kogi State.

A call for rehabilitation of  Lokoja – Ajaokuta road in Kogi State.

Call on Federal Government to put in place policy measures to curtail the unending armed banditry, killings and kidnapping in Ajaokuta, Adavi/Okehi, Okene/Ogori magongo, Ijumu , Kabba-bunnu and Lokoja/kotonkarfe Federal constituencies of Kogi State.

A motion on the need to expand the coverage of the National health insurance scheme in Nigeria.

HEALTH

The Member facilitated the rehabilitation of iron and steel clinic Ajaokuta and approval was granted by the permanent secretary Federal Ministry Of Mines And Steel Development and as the time of this compilation an assessment team from the Ministry had visited the edifice in preparation for commencement of work. 

*EDUCATION*

With the current challenges facing the nation the Member took a bold step to embarked on the payment of WEAC/ JAMB for over 300 students in SS3 selected across the Constituency in 2019/20 and over 400 students for WAEC /NECO 2020/21 respectively. The beneficiaries were mainly the children of the vulnerable and Orphans.

He also set up a committee handling his education trust fund to assist children of vulnerable and orphans in paying their school fees. 

*EMPOWERMENT*

Empowerment of people became topmost priority to the Member as he chooses to always make his constituents self reliance.

– He distributed 400 motorcycles and tricycles between 2019/21

– Distributed 350 sewing machines between 2019/21.

– Distributed 230 grinding engines between 2019/21.

-Distributed 280 chest freezers between 2019/21.

-Distributed 180 generators between 2019/21.

– Distributed 12 brand new cars to some stakeholders between December 2020 to date .

*PROJECTS*

The Member who saw education as bedrock of every developed nation, the deteriorating stage of some schools across the constituency prompted him to embarked on construction and rehabilitations of some schools with furniture to ease the learning of the children. He started with the following schools.

Complete rehabilitation with furniture of a block of two classrooms LGEA School 2 Ajaokuta Native Town.

Complete rehabilitation with furniture a block of 2 classrooms LGEA School 3 Ajaokuta

Construction of a block of 3 class rooms in Community Secondary School Geregu village.

He saw water as a necessity of every human life, when the Member discovered this challenges he set up a committee to go round and check the damaged Boreholes that need rehabilitation and areas where new ones will be constructed, from the outcome of the committee he quickly directed the repair of damaged ones across the Constituency and the construction of new boreholes where necessary.

So far 5 new solar powered boreholes were constructed across the Constituency and many undergone rehabilitations.

Donated a brand new transformer 300-33kva to Ero community along Ajaokuta- Lokoja road.

Ohuovene village

Apamira village

Adogu village

Obangede village

Ine – ere village.

HUMANITARIAN

During the lockdown in the state as a result of the global pandemic Covid-19 threatening the nation the Member distributed food items as a palliatives in two phases to cushioned the effect of the lockdown in his Constituency these are  carried out between March and April 2020.

At the beginning of this year 2021 he designed cash empowerment which went round his Constituency mainly for the widows, vulnerables for sustainability.

*SKILLS ACQUISITION*

The Member who always have his people at heart selected youths across the Constituency to embarked on skills acquisition training on computer for some days after the training each of them was given a computer devices and a printer with a start-up capital to make them self reliance.

Another phase of the training for skills acquisition on soap making, detergent, liquid detol , Air freshener , perfume etc was carried out and  each beneficiary also received a start-up capital after the training.

*EMPLOYMENT*

On the issue of employment House of Representatives don’t give jobs , but they influence with the shortest possible time he was able to influenced some Federal jobs to some of the Youths from the Constituency among which are Mall. Ahmed Aminu Onoduku. Bayero University Kano and Mall. Yusuf Ali, National Assembly Service Commission Abuja. The global pandemic Covid-19 slowed down all processes but effort is ongoing to see how possible some can get to us sooner than later.

Yes as human there are  challenges from complains we received on daily basis as that will make us stand tall for optimal performance  his empowerment and projects across the Constituency are continuous exercise other areas that have not felt the impact should kindly be patient and understand that he shall soon get to them .
