The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has commiserated with other well meaning Nigerians over the death of Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, who passed on on Wednesday in Kaduna of heart-related illness.
“We would like to join other well-meaning Nigerians in paying tribute to Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, who passed on on Wednesday in Kaduna of heart-related illness.
“Balarabe Musa was a principled radical politician and activist who devoted his entire political life to fighting for the poor and the weak.
“As Governor of Kaduna State, he abolished exploitative and oppressive taxes such as jangali.
“He put in place policies that ensured free education, liberation of women and the deepening of people- oriented government.
“In 1981, he was impeached as governor of Kaduna State because he would not compromise his principles to a malevolent NPN -dominated State House of Assembly.
“Years after, and to the end, Balarabe Musa continued to be a reference point in principled politics. He became the conscience of the nation by virtue of his informed commentaries on public issues.
“Day or night, the door to his house at Malali in Kaduna was open to all.”
