Akwa Ibom State Government have reiterated the need for a clean environment, amidst the prevailing Coronavirus pandemic.
State’s Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ekong Sampson, stated this when he accompanied the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Akpan Ikim, during May 2020 sanitation monitoring exercise.
The team which went round the Capital city supervising waste evacuation also monitored the exercise across the city.
Addressing press men during the exercise, the Commissioner noted that aside the Covid-19 pandemic, they were other prevailing challenges that shouldn’t be ignored.
Hon. Ekong said a clean environment was necessary to fight Malaria.
“In this era of Covid-19, you don’t need to wait for Government to ask you to stay safe. You need to take personal responsibilities which includes social distancing,” Ekong stated.
Also addressing pressmen, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Ikim said the Government through the agency is doing everything possible to ensure that Akwa Ibom is and healthy.
Ikim further promised Akwa Ibom citizens to ensure the state remains the cleanest in the federation.
He noted that both the Agency and the Ministry of Environment, are working in synergy.
